On July 9, European Parliament adopted Resolution on the review of the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) with overwhelming majority (460 for, 61 against and 55 abstained).

Resolution stresses that the renewed policy must be more strategic and flexible and take into account the different challenges facing countries in each region, as well as their differing aspirations and political ambitions.

Resolution recalls the provisions of the Riga Declaration of the EU Eastern Partnership Summit of 22 May 2015, calls on partner countries to strive for exclusively peaceful solution to existing conflicts on the basis of the norms and principles of international law.

European Parliament Resolution also underlines the need for an overarching political strategy to take into account all provisions of the Helsinki Final Act of 1975 including equal rights and self-determination of peoples. It notes that the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), as the biggest regional organisation responsible for security, should continue to play an important role in this regard.

Armenian side has always stressed the importance of mentioning of the principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples in the provisions on European Neighbourhood security. With this resolution European Parliament has adopted balanced approach in conflict resolution issue and, in particular, rejected by vote the inclusion of the reference to Kirilov report made by the Parliament of former convocation in the final text.
